Skulpturale Kunstwerke, von Bildhauern in liebevoller Handarbeit gemeißelt, dienen früher wie heute dazu, herrschaftliche Anwesen zu verzieren und tragen maßgeblich zu ihrer Eindruckskraft bei. Einige der bedeutsamsten Bildhauer ihrer Zeit wirkten an der Entstehung Dresdens Schlösser mit und sind grundlegend an der Ausformung des Barocks- und Rokokostils, dem Dresdner Barock, beteiligt. Ihre Kunstfertigkeit spiegelt sich in Bauten wie dem Zwinger wieder, an dessen Gestaltung unter anderem der Bildhauer Balthasar Permoser (1651-1732) beteiligt war. Hier prunken an Fassaden, auf Balustraden sowie an Wasserspielen zahlreiche nach italienischem Vorbild kreierte Skulpturen aus Elbsandstein. Auch Schloss Wackerbarth, eine barocke Schlossanlage mit einem Belvedere mitten in den Radebeuler Weinbergen, trumpft im Französischen Garten mit zwei antiken Plastiken auf einem Postament auf, die einen Bacchus mit Hund sowie eine Venus mit Amor zeigen.

Sowohl die barocken Schlösser als auch das von unterschiedlichen Stilrichtungen durchzogene Residenzschloss und die klassizistischen Bauten Schloss Albrechtberg und das Lingerschloss weisen zahlreiche Sandsteinplastiken in Form von Kugeln zur Schmückung von Säulen , Pfeilern und Balustraden auf. Sie sind ein wirkungsvolles Element der eleganten Fassadengestaltung sowie der Gestaltung weiter Parkflächen.
PARKANLAGEN MIT IMPOSANTEN WASSERSPIELEN
Wie sind Brunnen in die Gärten integriert?
Dresdens Schlösser wurden allesamt mit einer Parkanlage, vorwiegend im Stil des Bauwerks, geschaffen. Die Gartenanlage diente seinen Besitzern als Rückzugs- und Ruheort sowie als Zentrum höfischen Lustwandelns. Bereits um 1700 wusste man, dass Wasser ein zentrales Element der Gartengestaltung war. Kaskaden- und Springbrunnen mit skulpturalen Wasserspeiern sind äußerst beliebt, laden zum Erfrischen ein und gestalten das Gesamtkunstwerk mit. Das eindrucksvollste Beispiel ist das Nymphenbad im Zwinger, bei dem Wasser aus Tritonen und Nymphen im Auffangbecken mit tropfsteinartigem Schmuck gespeist wird. Eine kleinere Variante sind Wandsteinbrunnen, so wie ihn Schloss Wackerbarth aufweist. Hier läuft ein von kegelförmigen Buchsbäumen begleiteter Treppenaufgang auf einen Wandbrunnen mit muschelförmigem Becken zu.
PASSENDE GARTENSTILE - FRANZÖSISCHE, JAPANISCHE UND ENGLISCHE GÄRTEN
In welchen Stilrichtungen sind die Gärten gestaltet?
Auch die Bauherren der damaligen Zeit genossen es, mit unterschiedlichen Gartenstilen zu spielen und grüne Areale zu schaffen, die zum Entspannen und Staunen einladen. Besondere Liebe für die Gartenkunst offenbart Schloss Pillnitz, das Kurzfürst August der Starke für seine Favoritin Anna Constantia von Cosel erwarb. Zu ihrer Zeit entstand der Barocke Lustgarten mit Springbrunnen und Boskettanlagen. 1778 kamen der Englische Garten sowie 1790 der Chinesische Garten hinzu. Heute bestehen auf der Anlage insgesamt sechs zusammenhängende Gärten auf einer Fläche von 28 Hektar, deren Stile durch die spezifische Botanik sowie dekorative Elemente wie den chinesischen und englischen Pavillon gekennzeichnet sind. Wer ein herrschaftliches Anwesen besaß, investierte demnach Zeit und Geld nicht nur in Innenräume und Fassade, sondern auch maßgeblich in die Gestaltung der Außenanlage. Hierfür wurden eigens angesehene Gartenbaumeister und Hofgärtner angestellt. Sie sorgten für entsprechende Ideen und ihre Umsetzungen und unterstützen somit den grundlegenden Stil des Anwesens. Im Falle von Schloss Pillnitz, einem intendiert „indianischem“ Bauwerk, das barocke und ostasiatische Elemente vereint, verwundert es daher nicht, dass ein Chinesischer Garten neben einem Barocken Garten harmoniert.
